Common Questions About Dental Veneers

Are dental veneers painful?

The process for getting your new veneers should be pain-free. You may be a good candidate for prepless veneers in which no tooth modification is needed beforehand. If we do need to remove a small amount of tooth enamel to make room for your veneers, it should be a painless process with local anesthesia. Still, we always have topical numbing creams and dental sedation available if you’re nervous about your procedure.

How long do dental veneers last?

The material your veneers are made from will ultimately determine how long your new veneers will last. Porcelain or zirconia veneers can last for 10 years or longer without any problems, while composite resin veneers will usually give you at least five to seven years, and perhaps as many as 10 years, before needing replacement.

How do dental veneers work?

Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made dental restorations that fit snugly over the front surface of your teeth. You can use them to change the size, shape, and/or color of your teeth. Depending on the kind of veneer you choose, Dr. Schope will remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth before affixing your veneers. Once in place, they hide imperfections including chips, stains, and gaps between teeth.

Do dental veneers look fake?

We use veneers made of materials like porcelain. They look a lot like natural tooth enamel. We also work closely with you on the shade, shape, and overall appearance of your veneers.
